This doesn’t come as a surprise to me, but it may for some; especially those Microsoft fan boys out there… With the power invested in IGN they have officially named the PS3 best new console of the year!
Console launch years only come around twice a decade or so, and they’re always guaranteed to be exciting years. The 360 matured dramatically since this time last year and its second-generation titles like Gears of War and CoD3 made the PlayStation 3’s job of shocking the world with its immense power rather difficult.

Ign do not class the 360 as a new console..that`s why it`s not in the best NEW console of the year award..only nintendo to compete with..just got a ps3 and i`m not impressed with anything at the moment, 360 does it 100 times better, if they can`t improve graphically whith it`s impossible to program cell at least i can use it for garden parties this summer..it makes a much better looking barbecue than a games console..
Ok how can i say this … I am a fan of games . PLAIN AND SIMPLE . I have a xbox 360 and a Ps3 . And a bunch of other cosoles i need not mention.

Other Than the upscalling issue … the 360 has nothing more to offer … and thats why if you compare launch with launch the ps3 is supperior.
Hasnt anyone noticed that they have no problems with the system like the 360 has . Has anyone noticed the quality of graphics compared to the games on the 360 when it launched .

Motion sensitive controller that people still think that its not motion sensitive . NOBODY TELLS THEM THIS AT STORES … they see the WII and they are like wow you can use the controller as a wheel …. ummm you can do the same thing on the PS3 . The ps3 is a hell of a system if not the best system yo date . I love my 360 but nothing compared to my ps3. Yes GOW looks sweet … i love it , but man on a hdtv lcd screen .When you load up the ps3 games THEY LOOK JUST AS SWEET . TV WILL MAKE THE DIFFERENCE . TRUST ME .

The ps3 is horrible, thts my opppinion, It has soo many problems, it horrible. One thing I think it is tht its, almost exactly like the black xbox all over again. Its HUGE, GINOMOUS, i spelt tht wrong. But yea I thought it was going to be alot more smaller. Its So expensive too

i have ps3, i have version 1.32, a 60 gig hardrive and a copy of resistance fall of man, i would no if its good or not so #6, shut the fuck up!
I like my PS3, problem is i have that stupid problem with my controllers randomly freezing mid play. Lots of folks are having the problem. Its sucks!.
Hate to say it but your beloved PS3 is not perfect, so lets make that clear. Also, not even 1 current crop of BR movies can compete with the PQ of HD-DVD. But i do like the PS3, so don’t totally get me wrong, I just hate blind fandboy crap being spouted.
mike=sony fanboy..only comment when you own both consoles..i have both and i aint a fan of either..freezing during gameplay,glitchy movie play back and annoying pad freeze during play..sony has a lot of problems and they take a month to sort my console so it aint going back yet…resistance fall of man has a long way to go to start comparing to second generation 360 games…mike theres plenty of fanboy sites people would rather unbiased comparison..
9# what kind of spoild kid has both, you only need one and if the ps3 you boght is defected, bring it bake and get a new one its as simple as that, the ps3 i bought dosent have eny defects and im injoying it to the max, its a grate consule once you fix all the defects

It’s hard to make a viable argument using poor English or misinformation. IGN’s 2006 award for Best New Console was solely a competition between Nintendo’s Wii and Sony’s PS3, which, in case certain individuals are confused, were the ONLY new consoles for the year 2006. Microsoft’s Xbox 360 came out in 2005, which I’m certain someone mentioned earlier. Taking that into consideration, it is also clear that the comparison to the 360 was in light of it’s own launch over a year ago, not drawing it into this year’s award. To be honest, if the Xbox 360 had launched this year, along with the Wii and the PS3, who knows who would have won? Obviously, Microsoft would have different features in the box itself. It might even have had the HDTV drive built in, causing an even more direct comparison on the high definition video capabilities of both systems. But if Microsoft had waited a year, would we see the likes of Gears of War or Rainbow Six Vegas, or would they have been pushed to another date. It’s apparent that most people aren’t even putting Nintendo’s Wii into the equation of the console wars, but I think that is a mistake. To be fare in the interest of journalism and criticism, Electronic Gaming Monthly gave the award of best new system to the Nintendo Wii. So in that case, who really is the winner? The answer is simple: we (not Wii) are… the gamers / consumers. You see, as long as there are different options and choices in gaming systems, there are also different options and choices in games. Look what Electronic Arts did with the NFL license’s exclusivity to Madden. Without any competition in the development of the game (or a game system), who is forcing or encouraging them to “do it” better? We should encourage these different game systems and their different abilities, because as long as they exist, we’ll continue to get great and challenging games, constantly attempting to push the envelope. dude, they didnt have a 2005 version because xbox 360 was the only consule that came out and they did put xbox 360 in the 2006 version so stop complaineing that xbox wasent counted it was and it hit last place, microsoft lost GET OVER IT.
People complaining about the issues with the PS3 are retarded. So what if there are a few problems that Sony is currently working to resolve? The first shipment of xbox360s were miserable. When I first got my 360, it crashed after 24 hours. The store, as well as online research, confirmed that many xbox360s were crashing. The 360 does have better games, but in 1 year the PS3 will have much better games so its basically over for Microsoft. I own both systems and I am much more excited about the PS3. Also for those complaining about the prices obviously did not do their research. PS3 60GB is $600. XBOX 360 ~ $400 + HD DVD drive $200 = $600. Why does everyone forget that the PS3 offers the blu ray disc player with the PS3 where the Xbox 360 is a $200 add on? Sony all the way on this one.

The ps3 may well have won in direct competition with the 360, who knows. but as IGN called their award the “best new console of the year” it seems likely they mean the ps3 is the best new console for 2006, yes?

I gave it a shoot but its just not fun enough maybey down the road, but for now xbox360 rulez. Try not to use your PS3 as a paper weight like me, try to enjoy it, even if it a very hard thing to do.

I owned a 360 until Microsoft killed it w/ their live update. (thanks guys) Funny how everyone compares Resistance to Gears of War (which is not hands down either way) rather than Resistance against Quake or Perfect Dark. Did people forget how SHITTY those games were/are? If the PS3 can compete with the best game the 360 has produced out of the gate, can’t WAIT to see what they are doing a year from now…
