I just read about this “Red Kawa File Server” app — it essentially is a small web server that allows you to view & download files from your Windows PC over your wireless or wired network using the PS3’s web browser.
It supports a few configurable options providing some means of security; you’re able to specify a starting directory and define which directories can be shared for file download. By default “C:\Documents and Settings” is only approved.
If you’re not running Windows you can always configure the Apache web server to behave in the same manner.

this also works on the psp
A word of caution. This will make your whole system available to the internet by default they dont allow downloading from any directory but documents and settings but teh settings can be changed from anywhere out there. If you have a router you should be able to block connections from the internet to port 8192 so only your ps3 on your local lan can access it. Also the service is only running when you have the program open so best practice is to close it when you don’t need it.
I have it running and everything but when I try to download a file to my PS3 from my computer it says “Insert storage media at the save destination”
